How do golf balls actually differ?

You may have cleaned your clubs, your shoes, and have fresh gloves in the bag ready to go, but are you playing with the right golf balls?

How many times have you hit a bad shot into the water or a nearby field and the frustration you’re feeling as you fish about in your bag for another ball has you completely ignoring what kind of golf ball you’re using? Does it even matter what kind of ball you’re using? Do golf balls actually differ?

Well, if you’re still under the impression that all golf balls are white, dimpled, and come with interchangeable brand logos stamped on them, you’d be wrong! Under the cover, each golf ball has a unique core and composition.

We have a whole range of golf balls in the pro shop, from colourful high-vis golf balls to those with eye-catching alignment aids.

What's the point?

So, what’s the point in choosing one kind of golf ball over the next? And why are there so many kinds available? Well, golf is a rich and challenging game, and there are golfers of all kinds of backgrounds and skill levels. From those just earning their first handicap to the seasoned veterans who hit the course multiple times a week.

Certain golf balls are designed to give the player as much forgiveness on their strikes as possible, while others allow better players to get more spin so they can pitch their shots just right.

You may come across the magic word ‘urethane’ before. This is a type of plastic coating given to certain golf balls. Balls with a urethane cover tend to feel softer and offer more spin on pitch shots while non-urethane balls produce a higher, faster flight.

Please join us as we consider the latest golf balls from Srixon, and how they’ll suit your ability.

The cover on the Soft Feel golf balls has been designed to give you better connection when hitting the ball, especially on your wedge shots. As you can guess from the name, the ball has a soft core that offers both an endearing, soft sense of feel, and more distance on your strikes.

Srixon’s UltiSoft golf ball has a FastLayer core, this tech means the centre of the ball is soft and gets firmer near the surface. This golf ball also has large dimples that will give you more confidence when standing over the ball, and the design reduces drag to give you more distance.
